TOE related the disparate east and west ends of the Church Hill Tunnel in Richmond Virginia. The social and economic materiality of urban renewal at the heart of the former confederate capital drove the production of art works which include glossy white arch, floating sculptures of foot balls, shepard staffs, leather jackets and stainless re-inforced bar, air plants, and team jerseys.
Referring to the Church Hill Tunnel as a tunnel is something of a misunderstanding: In 1925 it collapsed and sits now as mass of wet ground that connects a derelict ravine to a swimming pool. TOE is contact sculpture.
