1708 GALLERY-Richmond VA.
MARCH 6-April 18 2015
Two of everything, or TOE, is a continuation of work that is site sensitive, site responsive, and committed to the thoroughfare, exemplified here by the Church Hill Tunnel in Richmond Virginia. Some of the materials have been gleaned directly from the site, and others function as a signature of the site’s event context.
Referring to the Church Hill Tunnel as a “tunnel” is something of a misuse of the word. In 1925 it collapsed, and as it sits now the Church Hill Tunnel is mass of wet ground, solid but certainly shifting, which joins a derelict ravine to a swimming pool. In addition to being a popular destination for those searching out the haunted the area is also a gravesite. The work is to synthesize the east and west ends into a project that is a current counter point to Richmond’s tragedy, seen through the lens of the tunnel.
